AWSome Day Online Conference
Amazon Web Services provided an AWSome Day Online Conference last October 31, 2017. It was a free online training event that provides a step-by-step introduction to the AWS services. The online conference consists of 5 modules with a specified time, a live question and answer session, technical demos, and certificate of attendance.
It was available in the selected country, and we chose to stream in Singapore time since it was the same as the time here in the Philippines. The presenters for the event were John Balsillie, a Senior Technical Trainer for Amazon Corporate Services, and Karthik Chandy, a Technical Trainer for AWS.
It started at precisely 8 AM, and the module lasted for 30 minutes each. The first module was discussed by John Balsillie, and it was about the AWS Introduction and History. It covered the Cloud Computing Concepts and AWS Global Infrastructure. For the second module, it was also presented by John Basillie. Module 2 was about the AWS Foundational Services including Amazon Elastic Compute (EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Amazon Simple Storage (S3), and Amazon Elastic Book Store (EBS).
The third up to the fifth module was presented by the second presenter who was Karthik Chandy. Module 3 covered the Security, Identity, and Access Management (IAM) of AWS. The 4th module was the AWS database services including Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), and for the last module, it was all about the AWS Elasticity and Management Tools. It includes the Auto Scaling, Amazon CloudWatch, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) and AWS Trusted Advisor. After every module, we took a quiz with three items, and we also answered a poll about the presenter and the slides presented. At the end of the conference, it was announced that the certificate of attendance would be given to us three days after the event.
The online conference of AWS taught us to recognize the terminology and concepts as we relate the AWS platform and navigate it to the AWS Management Console. We also now understand the foundational services, including EC2, VPC, S3, and EBS. The module also let us know the security measures that the AWS provides, the AWS database services and the AWS Management Tools.
Last November 3, AWS emailed us our certificate of attendance. The team also designed a shirt and hoodies about the AWS online conference we’ve attended. The things we have learned during the event helps us in our daily operation since we are using the Amazon Web Services on our websites.
